NOW WE ARE SIX!

Now We are Six

When I was One,
I had just begun.
When I was Two,
I was nearly new.
When I was Three
I was hardly me.
When I was Four,
I was not much more.
When I was Five,
I was just alive.
But now I am Six,
I'm as clever as clever,
So I think I'll be six now for ever and ever.
-A.A. Milne

Avery turned six this month. I can't believe I've been blogging since she was referred to as, "the baby." Wasn't she just turning one?

From five to six our kids have both displayed tremendous stretching and growth. When they were five, for example, the log ride at Enchanted Forest wasn't even on their radar as an acceptable adventure. At six both were ready to bring it on.
At six:
Avery LOVES:
1)Receipts and paper from the recycling bin. The girl is a paper FIEND. When we bring the mail in she's already scoping out what will be going into the recycling. :O) These days most of it does.

2)Putting music on in her room and dancing with the door closed all by herself. She has an outfit she likes to wear when she does this involving a lace-fringed tank top (much like her ballet teacher's) leggings, a long skirt and a head scarf.

3)Her dolls. This has always been the case. She received this doll and carrier for her birthday, whom she named Roberta.

4)School. Most days, Avery gets off the bus a happy spaz.

5)Wild Kratts, and especially episodes featuring DAVIO.

6)Singing. The girls are learning songs througout the decades and currently Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy is Avery's fave. She and I took a bike ride the other day and she sang that song the whole time.

She HATES:
1)Bugs. HATES THEM! She's had many a bad dream in the night that involved a spider. Hers is an involuntary reaction when one is near her.

2)Having her hair brushed-her scalp is sensitive, but loves having her hair up in fun styles.

Avery also......

CRIES during any tender moment in a movie, like in the Princess and the Frog which she saw for the second time last week, she was BAWLING when the bug died.

READS. Her reading is really taking off right now. When I find her reading to her babies I just love it-she holds the book out so they can see the pages and uses lots of expression.

ENJOYS chocolate, hamburger patties, carrot sticks, honey sandwiches, and frosted mini wheats from trader joe's in the blue box thank you very much. Everything else she pretty much rejects.

TELLS me everything, all the stories every day. She tells me more stuff than her sister does, she's a very verbal child.

IS PLAYING SOFTBALL even though it's not what she'd have chosen to do with several spring evenings a week. She is proving to be both graceful and dancy and wildly coordinated, picking softball right up. Go Aves!

I love you Avery, super six year old of ours! Happy Birthday!
